The short version
Gavin will never sell or rent your information, and will never hand it to anyone to use for their own purposes.
You can unsubscribe any time, one click, no login, no hoops to jump through.
Here’s the plain-language version of what happens to your information when you sign up on gavinmcgarrigle.ca.
Who’s behind this
This is Gavin McGarrigle’s site, and these are his emails — he runs it personally.
Questions about your information, or anything else here, can go directly to him: contact@gavinmcgarrigle.ca.
What Gavin collects
Just what you give him on the signup form: your name, an email and/or phone number, and — if you feel like sharing — your Unifor Local number and workplace.
Why
So Gavin can send you updates and keep in touch. It’s hard for anyone to keep up with everything across every social media platform, so this is meant to be an easy way to keep up with what he’s doing — on the job and off — without digging for it.
What Gavin won’t do
Your information is never sold, never traded, and never handed to anyone to use for their own purposes. A small number of service providers process it only to do a job for Gavin and nothing else: Brevo sends the newsletter and records whether an email was opened or a link clicked, Google Analytics counts visits to this site, and his web host stores the site and keeps the standard server log. They act on his instructions and for no other purpose. That is the only way anything here leaves his hands.
How it’s stored, and for how long
Your information is kept secure, and access is limited to Gavin. He keeps it for as long as you’re subscribed. Unsubscribe and you’re done — the record of what you opened or clicked goes with it. Ask him to delete everything and he will.
A phone number is optional, and it’s used only if Gavin needs to reach you directly about something you have raised. He does not send bulk text messages, and will not start without asking you first.
Your rights
You can ask what’s on file for you, ask for anything wrong to be fixed, or ask for it to be deleted — any time, just by emailing contact@gavinmcgarrigle.ca. If you’re ever not happy with how something’s handled, you also have the right to raise it with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, if you’re in BC, the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for BC.
When you visit the site
Two things happen automatically when anyone loads a page here, and neither of them identifies you.
Google Analytics counts visits and shows roughly where people are — country, province, sometimes the city — which page they landed on, what device they used, and whether they arrived from Facebook, a search engine or a link somebody shared. It uses cookies to do that. It does not reveal your name, and there is no way to look you up from it.
Gavin’s web host keeps a standard server log of requests to the site, the way every web server does. He reads a summary of it to see how much of the traffic is real people and how much is search engines, AI crawlers and scrapers — and to spot anyone trying to break in. Only counts are kept. No IP addresses are stored. Where the log can show the name of a network a visit came from — a workplace or a university, say — only that organisation name and a number are kept, never anything tied to a person.
No service that tries to put a name to an anonymous visitor is used, or ever will be.
The emails themselves
Every email identifies Gavin clearly as the sender and includes a real, working unsubscribe link — you’ll always know why you’re hearing from him.
If you are subscribed, Gavin can see whether an email was opened and which links in it were clicked. That is ordinary newsletter tracking and it is how he knows which subjects are worth writing about. Because it is your subscription, it does identify you. It stops the moment you unsubscribe, and you can ask him to delete the record along with everything else.
The legal fine print
This was written to follow Canada’s federal and provincial privacy laws — clear consent, clear identification, and a real unsubscribe link, always. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer, so if something here looks wrong, tell him and he’ll fix it.
If this ever changes
The date at the top of this page will update if anything meaningful changes. You can always unsubscribe if something no longer works for you.

Keep up with what I'm doing — on the job and off.
Rather than checking back, let the updates come to you. I'll send the occasional note — what I'm working on for working people, and what it means. Straight from me, unsubscribe anytime.
